About
This is a blog about vintage and new designer sewing patterns, with a bias toward the period of the 1960’s to the 1990’s. I will be aiming to add new posts covering topics and featuring information relating to patterns that is not readily available or easy to find online. I hope you enjoy reading my blog and, most of all, looking at the pictures!
I am a male in my late 20’s who is obsessed with vintage patterns, sewing and fashion! I collect both women’s and men’s designer sewing patterns, mostly by Vogue Patterns, and make clothes for myself and occaisionally for the female friends in my life. I’ve learned so much about sewing and garment construction, and history from my patterns, I hope you do, too.
Enjoy!
-Dustin.
Hi Dustin
Just discovered your blog.
Excellent and very informative, would love more postings.
I live in Scotland and seem to be the lone Vogue pattern collector !
Therefore I’m always searching for any info.
Can you recommend any other websites / blogs etc ?
Keep up the good work.
Kind Regards
Alison
Hi Alison,
I live in a rural area of Australia and it often seems that I must be the only pattern collector around for miles, too. The internet is such a great way to connect with people of similar interests!
I would recommend one website to begin with:
http://vintagepatterns.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page
The Vintage Patterns Wikia is a great resource for discovering and sourcing vintage sewing patterns. The inventory is far from complete, which is understandable due to the fact that there have been so many patterns released since commercial patterns were first introduced. However, that’s an excellent reason to contribute to the site with any patterns you may own that are not yet included. If you are looking to sell a pattern on etsy or on a private site then uploading your pattern’s images and details can also act as a promotional selling tool while sharing the pattern information with the pattern collecting world.
Blogs that I follow, enjoy and find informative are:
uniquedesignerpatterns.blogspot.se
patternvault.wordpress.com
fiftydresses.wordpress.com
customstyle.wordpress.com
Thanks so much for visiting my blog and for leaving a comment. There’ll be more posts coming very soon!
Enjoy!
-Dustin.
Terrific effort. Do you have any insights on Jean Muir and her patterns with Vogue?
Hi Leah, please forgive the extremely late response! I’ve been quite neglectful of the blog for some time.
I am aware of many patterns by Jean Muir, but I don’t really have much information to share at this time. Her clothes had a definate style which was consistent from year to year, and were very recognizable. There is a book about Jean Muir which was published a few years ago which I flipped through in a book shop in Sydney (Australia) a while ago and and I recall it having plentiful images and information about her. Here it is on amazon.com
I hope this will help in your search for more information,
-Dustin.
how do I contact you? You mentioned that you would love to make the Dior wedding dress 2545 or the not sure pattern 2047
HEY DUSTIN; WHY DID YOU STOP TO WRITE?
PLEASE CONTINUE.
